Our Story How it all began
Our story starts back in 1999 when Jonathan and Patricia were classmates at East Brunswick High School (EBHS); however, the sparks didn't fly just yet! Jon was too preoccupied with Dawson's Creek while Patricia spent her time doing her homework and going to bed early. During high school, Jon and the younger Kirby sister became good friends through their respective "jock" channels while Patricia headed off to Penn State. In 2007, Jon moved into NYC and threw a housewarming party - this is where Jon and Moira's friendship came in handy as she invited Patricia to Jon's housewarming party. The two hit it off like they were meeting for the first time, and by the end of the night, Patricia scored an invitation to join Jon's dodgeball team. After a few games, he was won over by her athletic abilities and all around superb dodgeball skills (or lack thereof). The happy couple went on a super awkward first date in midtown to an Irish pub and then onto a Martin Sexton concert...and the rest is history!
Jonathan popped the question in August 2011 on the beach in Manasquan, NJ. A tearful 'yes' followed! Jonathan and Patricia are looking forward to celebrating with all their family and friends on October 20th and to starting their life together as the Chu's.
Photos Through the years
Groomsmen The Boys
I've known Matt since we were awkward freshmen in high school. Aside from getting into the occasional mischief, we both played football and lacrosse in high school that helped solidify the man-bond. Even though we're 3000 miles apart, it only takes a little water to keep the garden growing. To prove he is truly my best man, Matt was on the receiving end of my first touchdown pass in high school.
I met Craig during my first week of college at Drew University. We were both lacrosse players and lived across the hall from each other. To prove that the world is indeed a small place, Craig and I actually met each other briefly when we were about 5 years old and didn't know until college. He is one of my closest friends - if you run into Craig at the wedding, ask him to tell some Drew stories!
Derek has the best sense of humor of anyone I know. His ability to deliver jokes, as well as receive jokes, continues to astound me and leave me in tears. We got to live together for a year during our time at Drew in one of the coolest suites (or so we thought) on campus. He's an all around great guy who everyone loves - just don't trust him behind the wheel of a golf cart.
Kevin is the little brother I never had. I've never met anyone who knows so much about current events, yet continually breaks his computers by "accidentally" punching them. I'm fortunate enough that I've known the Kirby family long enough that Kevin feels like a brother to me already, and I'm proud of that. I'm also very proud that Kevin will officially be the first Division 1 athlete that I'm related to…if he didn't mention it to you 20 times already.
Bridesmaids The Girls
Kathleen and I go back to 1982, I was the crying bundle of joy that 2-year-old Kathleen just couldn't help but to pinch. Kathleen's pinching days (fortunately) are behind her and she now fills her time shaping the future generation, kickboxing, and traveling the world. I'm so grateful that Kathleen has agreed to don the plum bridesmaid dress, not only for her caliming presence during the wedding, but more so for her signature dance moves at the reception.
The little-sis was pushing hard to stand up at the tee box as both Best Man and Bridesmaid, but happily agreed to be on my side. Moira is the reason Jon and I met up outside of EBHS, so you could give her credit for this wedding. Besides playing the vital role of matchmaker, Moira is our favorite sharp witted, latte loving, IFC film watching, indie band listening Philadelphian. Bonus points for anyone at the wedding that get Moira to laugh her signature "90 year old waitress" chuckle.
Joanne and I are coming up on our 12 year friend-iversary, celebrating many years of fun and champagne! When Joanne isn't developing recipes and throwing amazing parties, she can be found hopping around Harlem searching out the best coffee, sparkly tanks, and finding the newest bars. Jon and I are both so happy to have Jojo in the wedding party (and that she has forgiven Jon for that one time he punched her in the arm) as she is such a HUGE part of our lives!
Sammy is the best sister-in-law a gal can ask for! She is always up for an impromptu dinner, brunch, or trip to DSW. Sammy is much more than a sister-in-law, she's also our cat dealer. We are forever grateful for her finding Brucie and Steven. I very much look forward to getting to know Sammy better as my Sister-in-Law, although I will still try my darndess to beat the Booperloo's in this upcoming Fantasy Football Season.
